In 2009, for the first time, Harris & Harris Group hosted a Meet the Portfolio Day in San Francisco to introduce some of our portfolio companies to investors, analysts, strategic partners, the banking community and the general public. It was very well received, so we decided to host a second event in May 2010 in New York City to introduce our life science companies to the public. After taking the year of 2011 off, there was high demand to host a third Meet the Portfolio Day event at Nasdaq in New York Times Square to introduce some of our most mature companies to the public.
Our 2012 Meet the Portfolio Day will be hosted on March 13, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. at the Nasdaq Market Site, 4 Times Square, New York, N.Y. It will be followed by lunch, at which point attendees can speak with some of the CEOs of the presenting portfolio companies. All three of our publicly traded portfolio companies will be presenting: NeoPhotonics (NYSE:NPTN), Solazyme (NASDAQ:SZYM), and Champions Oncology (OTC:CSBR). Additionally, maturing companies, Bridgelux, Metabolon, Kovio, D-Wave, Laser Light Engines, Contour Energy Systems and HzO will be presenting.
Meet the Portfolio Day Presentation Schedule
We hold this event for four primary reasons. First, it is a chance to introduce these companies to the partners and investors that may one day buy them, either as investors in an initial public offering (IPO) or in an acquisition. Second, it provides our investors and potential investors with an opportunity to hear directly from the CEOs of the companies about their progress and challenges. Third, it is a service to our portfolio companies. Fourth, it provides an opportunity for our CEOs to meet each other and share experiences learned from commercializing technology enabled at the nanoscale.
This year, in addition to webcasting the presentations, we are providing some added opportunities. Sheldon Kraft, the founder of SNN Inc. and the publisher of Micro-Cap Review will be present conducting video interviews of the companies. These interviews will be made public through SNN and through our Facebook and web sites. Additionally, Research 2.0 will be present conducting interviews, and these interviews and their commentary will be published following the Meet the Portfolio Day.
